Senior SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA)
Quistor is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of more than 5 years in SQL Server database administration, with exceptional proficiency in performance tuning, wait events analysis, replication, Change Data Capture (CDC) and more. This role offers the opportunity to work remotely while maintaining effective communication and collaboration with our team.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize your extensive experience to design, implement, and maintain high-performance SQL Server databases, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and reliability.
- Perform in-depth performance tuning and optimization, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, slow queries, and other related issues.
- Analyze wait events and proactively address performance challenges to ensure smooth and efficient database operations.
- Oversee and manage database replication strategies, including setup, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of replication environments.
- Implement and manage Change Data Capture (CDC) processes to enable real-time data integration and synchronization across databases.
- Monitor database health using various tools, set up alerting mechanisms, and respond to incidents in a timely manner to minimize downtime and data loss.
- Participate in on-call rotation (appt. 1 week per quarter) and respond to critical database issues promptly, ensuring 24/7 availability of mission-critical systems.
- Work closely with cross-functional and cloud teams to plan and execute database upgrades, migrations, and patching while minimizing risks and downtime.
- Document database configurations, processes, and best practices, contributing to the creation and maintenance of internal knowledge resources.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in SQL Server database administration.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator.
- Strong proficiency in performance tuning, query optimization, and resolving database-related performance issues.
- Expertise in analysing and mitigating wait events, bottlenecks, and resource contention.
- Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing database replication and CDC solutions.
- In-depth knowledge of SQL Server high availability and disaster recovery mechanisms.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
- Azure knowledge is a plus. Willingness to further grow on Azure technologies is a must.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude.
- Experience with other database systems (Oracle, MySQL, DB2, PostgreSQL) and cloud platforms is a plus.
- Ability to communicate well in English, Dutch language is an advantage.
Location
This position offers the flexibility to work remotely, with the option to work from our office if desired.
