How Vanderlande moves her beating heart JD Edwards to the cloud to grow

Bergen op Zoom, 13 June 2022When your company is outgrowing its initial size, it is important to focus on a cloud-first strategy. The cloud is scalable and flexible, which creates room for growth and innovation. Vanderlande, market leader in automated logistics processes, also feels the need to expand. They decided to move the beating heart of their logistics and financial processes to the Oracle Cloud. Because they were happy to leave the complex JD Edwards project to the pros, Oracle Platinum partner Quistor was chosen to do the job.

Vanderlande supplies automated logistics systems to airports, distribution centres, logistics companies and parcel deliverers worldwide. JD Edwards is the ERP application for purchasing, sales and financial processes. With 1000+ users worldwide, 300/400 of whom work simultaneously, the app must respond quickly and guarantee the continuity of processes.

JD Edwards had been running on-premises for years, but Vanderlande was starting to feel the limits of on-premise. “We saw signs that the database was too tight and because we were growing, we also expected an increase in transactions in the future”, says Wino Verschoor, Manager Business Information Systems at Vanderlande.

Vanderlande decided to move to the scalable and future-proof Oracle Cloud. Quistor has enormous expertise and know-how when it comes to Oracle and is the designated party to guide and execute the project. Quistor were of course aware of the complexities of the project, however tackled the challenge with confidence. Due to the necessary continuity of everyday business processes, it is vital to an organisation that a business-critical application like JDE does not have more downtime than is strictly necessary.

Michel Sluymers, Sales Director of Quistor: “Everything had to be transferred from an IBM database to an Oracle database. That environment looks different, and it all had to work again, of course. The complexity of the project therefore lies in two important pillars: the migration and the integration of the application and more than 120 interfaces. Nevertheless, we were able to bring the project live successfully in a short period of time through tight planning and with limited impact on production.”

With the migration from JD Edwards to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Vanderlande has a high-performance, scalable and future-proof platform that grows with the success of their organization. In addition, they are completely unburdened and have a transparent partner for the future. Quistor is not an hourly bill factory, but is happy to enter a long-term partnership in which they can really elevate the customer to the next level.
